The Sydney Morning Herald recently reported that patients are twice as likely to develop a major deformity after undergoing cosmetic breast implant surgery if the doctor performing the operation is not a specialised plastic surgeon.

The study comes as a class action, run by Turner Freeman Lawyers, against The Cosmetic Institute was given the green light to proceed after an attempt by doctors to throw it out failed.

Sally Gleeson, partner at Turner Freeman Lawyers and leader of the Cosmetic Institute Class Action, said the firm had been contacted by over 1000 women who have experienced major complications after breast implant surgery.
