Following a disappointing 3-0 loss last week to Melbourne Victory, our Western Sydney Wanderers were desperate to score a win against Bruno Fornorali’s Melbourne City as the two sides faced off in a highly anticipated Friday Night game at Spotless Stadium. The match also saw Socceroo’s legend Tim Cahill return to his Western Sydney roots, as he played his first A-League game in his hometown.

The game was fiercely contested by both sides however remained without a goal during the first half. Kerem Bulut appeared to have broken the deadlock early in the second half as he put away a masterfully crafted through ball by marquee Nico Martinez only to have the goal disallowed by an erroneous and over-eager offside ruling by the assistant referee. Disappointingly, Melbourne City made the most of their good fortune as Tim Cahill showed his world class talent, controlling a cross from Fernando Brandan with a skillful first touch and scoring an easy tap in goal to put the visitors in front.

In the dying minutes of the second half, a cross from defender Jack Clisby found its way into the back of the net tying the game at 1-1. Wanderer’s youngster Lachlan Scott was awarded the goal despite replays showing the cross was guided home by City defender Neil Kilkenny. The Wanderers walked away with the one point as the game ended with both teams tied at 1-1 and whilst it was not an ideal result, the draw pushed the Wanderers back into the top 6 narrowly ahead of 7th placed Newcastle Jets.

Turner Freeman Partner’s Richard Dababneh from our Parramatta office and Nathan Edwards-Bonello from our Campbelltown office attended the night accompanied by a number of our client referrers who continue to support the growth of our nationwide firm. We wish the Wanderers the best of luck this week as they face Brisbane Roar at Spotless Stadium and hope that they can secure a much needed 3 points.
