Home | Trevor Gillmeister – Taking an Axe to Asbestos

TREVOR Gillmeister is a Queensland rugby league great.

The former Maroons captain who played 22 Origin games for Queensland, as well as twice Broncos premierships winner is embarking on a 1,368 km journey from Townsville to Brisbane to raise awareness for asbestos and to raise $100,000 much needed funds for the Asbestos Disease Support Society (ADSS), a charity that is very personal and extremely close to his heart.

In October 2008, Gilly’s father Ron lost his 12-month battle with Mesothelioma – the most fatal of all asbestos diseases.

The ADSS is a non-profit organisation that helps support people suffering from asbestos-related diseases and works tirelessly on raising awareness for all asbestos related diseases such as Mesothelioma, Asbestosis, Pleural Plaques, etc. “I became a spokesman for ADSS after losing my father to asbestos, and seeing what a terrible toll it can take on a person, and their loved ones as well,” Gilly said.

Trevor’s journey start on the 26 September and he is planning to arrive to Brisbane on the 27 October, almost 5 years to the day since his father passed away.
