On 5 September 2022, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (“Ahpra”) established a cosmetic surgery complaints hotline.  The hotline is a dedicated phone number staffed by a specialist team within Ahpra which allows patients who have been harmed by cosmetic surgery to directly report their concerns to Ahpra.

The establishment of the hotline is one part of the response by the Ahpra and the Medical Board of Australia (MBA) to the Independent review into the regulation of medical practitioners who perform cosmetic surgery.  This report was finalised on 1 September 2022 following a six month review of the cosmetic surgery sector.  The report makes 16 recommendations to improve patient safety and can be found here: https://www.ahpra.gov.au/News/Cosmetic-surgery-independent-review-of-patient-safety.aspx

For patients wishing to make a complaint using the hotline, you can find more information here: https://www.ahpra.gov.au/News/2022-09-05-cosmetic-hotline.aspx
