The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the number of patients waiting over a year for elective surgery has almost tripled. Although the term elective surgery suggests that there is an element of choice about the surgery, in fact, thousands of Australians are suffering with pain and discomfort as they await much needed surgery.
Mass cancellations of procedures due to COVID-19 has meant that the waiting time for elective surgery has increased, these often being procedures that are necessary and crucial to a person’s ability to properly function and to their quality of life.
