Tanya has been practising in the area of Wills, Estates and Elder Law since 2015.
Tanya has a strong focus on wills and estates law, with particular experience in unfair wills and family provision claims. She regularly advises and represents clients in estate litigation, including disputes involving elder law and elder abuse. Her work often includes elder litigation, where she advocates for the rights and wellbeing of older Australians.
She also advises on legal issues related to retirement living, including retirement village contracts and disputes. Tanya is experienced in helping clients navigate complex family accommodation arrangements, such as granny flat agreements, ensuring their rights are protected now and into the future.
Tanya was admitted to legal practice in 2010. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Law with Honors at the University of Canberra followed by the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Australian National University. When completing her law degree, Tanya was the recipient of a Monbukagakusho scholarship to study in Okinawa, Japan, where she completed her Honors research thesis.
Tanya then went on to study in Japan, obtaining a Master of Law degree from Kyushu University in the International, Economics and Business Law Masters Program.
Tanya worked for several years at the College of Law in Sydney as a Senior Content Developer in the Applied Masters programme before moving into legal practice as a solicitor in 2015, providing legal services in elder law including preparation of wills and estate drafting and probate matters, advising and acting in retirement accommodation issues, providing aged care and elder law advice, and providing advice and representation in estate and elder law litigation.
Tanya was a solicitor at the Legal Aid NSW Elder Abuse Legal Service during which time she scripted, hosted and edited the Age, Abuse & Justice Youtube video series and podcast produced by the NSW Legal Aid Commission.
Tanya is
- the host and creator of the Just in Case Law podcast in which she summarises interesting legal cases.
- a lecturer and tutor for Elder Law at Western Sydney University.
- co-chair of the Hunter Central Coast Elder Abuse Prevention Collaborative which aims to raise awareness of elder abuse and services available to older persons that can prevent elder abuse or assist a person to escape an elder abuse situation.
- a member of the Advisory Board to the Ageing and Disability Commissioner.
- a member of the Specialist Accreditation Elder Law Advisory Committee
In her spare time, Tanya enjoys spending time with her three dogs, hiking, and listening to podcasts.
