Police Minister Jack Dempsey has welcomed 90 new police officers into the Queensland Police Service (QPS) today. The new recruits would help the QPS reaching the target of 300 additional police promised for this financial year.

Induction ceremony

The induction ceremony also saw the swearing-in of two Queensland Police Service general purpose dogs which will be deployed at Brisbane Dog Squad (Dex) and Maryborough (Arkie).

“I thank the 90 First Year Constables (FYCs) who have accepted the responsibilities of maintaining law, order and public safety in their roles as police officers,” Mr Dempsey said.

This graduation is the first milestone in the State Government’s commitment to providing an additional 1,100 officers across Queensland within four years.

Commissioner Ian Stewart said,“It is my vision that these new constables will be courageous, fair and proud in their duties as they work to stop crime, make the community safer and build relationships.

  • Mackay (6)
  • Rockhampton (7)
