QLD property law review

A major property law review is proposed in Queensland to bring outdated property laws in line with the 21st century.

The aim of this review is to make buying and selling properties in Queensland more streamlined and cut unnecessary red tape.

The review will include a look into the Property Law Act 1974, Land Sales Act 1984 and the Body Corporate and Community Management Act 1997.

All interested Queenslanders as well as organisations, businesses, corporations and property professionals can have a say and provide feedback until the 21st March 2014.

The first 2 reviews include the paper on Sellers Disclosure and the other is on Lot Entitlements under the Body Corporate and Community Management Act 1997. Sellers Disclose covers the process of conveyancing and the process of sales. Lot Entitlements is about reviewing the issues around lot entitlements such as adjusting lot entitlements of current title schemes.

The review is undertaken in a partnership with QUT who lead the way in educating in property law.

“We want all consumers to be properly informed when it comes to buying property” said Mr Bleijie, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice. “This is about getting the balance right and having a system that promotes the future of the property sector.”

For more information about this review and to have your say and keep up to date with the progress of the review, visit the Queensland Government Community Engagement website.
