At just 37 she was diagnosed with mesothelioma caused by asbestos inhalation when she assisted her father in building a shed out the back of their family home. Now, almost 10 years since she was diagnosed, Serafina has become an advocate for asbestos awareness. She has campaigned relentlessly for the introduction of an Asbestos Safety Certificate, so that new home owners would become aware of any asbestos present in a home before its purchase.
