Cairns associate finalist in the CBW awards

We are proud to announce that our Cairns Associate has been named as a finalist in the Cairns Business Women’s awards in 2017.

Each year, the Cairns Business Women’s Club seeks to recognise the exceptional skills of women in business and corporate leadership from the Cairns region and the contribution they make to the community as a whole. The Cairns Business Women’s Club Annual Awards commenced in 1985 and continues to grow from strength to strength. The CBWC Awards are about recognising all businesswomen in the Cairns region regardless of their work environment. The awards are open to female residents of tropical north Queensland, from Cardwell to the Torres Strait Islands and west to the border of the Northern Territory.

Since relocating from Adelaide to Cairns 10 years ago, she has discovered her passion for working in regional Australia. Like many regions, Cairns has its fair share of challenges, both economic and social. We understand the importance of there being equitable access to justice for all members of the community to exercise their legal rights without being disadvantaged by the many barriers that are faced in the regions being cultural, linguistic and geographic, including in the most remote areas.

As an active member of the local Cairns community, both the legal community and the general community. she has held an executive management position on the committee of the Far North Medical and Legal Society since it’s inception in 2012, and also holds memberships with the Far North Queensland Law Association, in addition to the Queensland Law Society and Australian Lawyers Alliance.

Over the years, she has demonstrated her commitment to the local community by volunteering her time assisting at the Cairns Community Legal Centre, as a mentor for law students at James Cook University and volunteered legal services to the RSPCA. Outside of her professional interests, she holds an executive position on the Parents and Friends association at her children’s school and you will often find her actively participating in various fundraising or other charity organisations and events, with the most recent being the April “Dignity Drive” for the “Share the Dignity Campaign” which is a charitable organisation aimed at assisting at risk, homeless women and women escaping domestic violence.
