Free safety workshops on the Sunshine Coast

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland is going to be offering FREE workshops covering a range of work health and safety topics from February. These workshops aim to provide participants with practical information, tools and activities to help businesses effectively manage health and safety in the workplace.

All workshops run for two hours and are designed to help small to medium businesses that have limited or no current health and safety processes in place.

Please note that these workshops are not suitable for large organisations or those businesses with well developed safety management systems.

The proposed workshop topics are:

Basic safety management system
This workshop helps to review the key elements of a safety management system (covering consultation, safe work procedures, training and supervision, reporting safety, workers’ compensation and return to work).

Risk management
This workshop introduces participants to the principles and steps involved in the risk management process, from the identification of hazards to the review of controls.

Safe work procedures
Safe work procedures provide a simple outline of steps required to perform a task safely and ensure your workers are aware of the risks and hazards at work. This workshop goes through an easy and systematic process for writing safe work procedures.

Safe work method statements (for high risk construction work) Safe work method statements (SWMS) provide an outline of steps required to perform a task safely, and must be written for high risk construction work. This workshop goes through an easy and systematic process for writing safe work method statements.

Basic risk management for manual tasks
This workshop is designed to introduce participants to the basics of identifying and managing the risks created in the workplace by manual tasks.

Incident and emergency response
This workshop is designed to provide guidance to business operators about incident notification, accident investigation, first aid and emergency planning.

Hazardous chemicals
This workshop is designed to introduce participants to the basics of managing the risks of hazardous chemicals at work.

Monitor and review
This workshop will help businesses review existing policies and procedures, and help develop an ongoing monitoring regime to manage work health and safety in the workplace.

Time and dates for the safety workshops

Workshops for these topics will be held for one week each, from February 2014 in Maroochydore. Available times for each workshop are:

  • Tuesday 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
  • Wednesday 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm
  • Thursday 10:30 am – 12:30 pm
