When cosmetic surgery becomes ugly

NSW parliament inquiry into cosmetic surgeries

The Cosmetic Institute (TCI) promises patients superior cosmetic surgery in highly advanced medical settings. It seems unusual therefore that a significant number of its previous patients have sought legal advice from Turner Freeman Lawyers due to injuries suffered by them at the hands of TCI doctors. These women believed that the doctors were surgeons who possessed the requisite degree of skill and training but the reality of the situation is quite the converse. Consequently, these women have suffered such things as cardiac arrests from toxic doses of anaesthesia, lung punctures and physical disfigurement.

The philosophy of TCI is “affordable quality” cosmetic surgery. Ironically, TCI has left a trail of victims, some of whom have had no choice but to undergo revision surgery due to the extent of their pain and suffering. They have been advised that they have their anatomy to blame for their bad outcome.  These women have common stories about the conduct of TCI and their lack of proper treatment. Some of the stories are unfathomable.  In circumstances where a patient is seeking a better cosmetic result, the psychological impact of a damaged body and mind can be devastating.

There is no doubt that every patient deserves competent treatment and follow up care, in any medical setting. In circumstances where procedures are conducted inappropriately and with poor outcomes, these patients can have significant compensation rights that must be pursued.
