Lawyer 1–3 years PQE – Canberra

Our Canberra practice plays an important role in this work, particularly in supporting clients impacted by historical institutional abuse.

The Role

Based in our Canberra office, you will work closely with a Special Counsel on a predominantly institutional abuse practice, alongside workers compensation, public liability, motor vehicle accident and Comcare matters.

This is a hands-on role where you will have real responsibility, client contact, and the opportunity to develop strong technical and advocacy skills in a supportive environment.

What you’ll be doing

You will manage your own files and assist on more complex matters, including:

• Working directly with clients, many of whom have experienced significant trauma, with care, professionalism and empathy
• Managing files from initial instruction through to resolution
• Liaising with medical experts, counsel and other stakeholders
• Drafting legal documents and correspondence
• Negotiating settlements
• Attending court and tribunal appearances as required

About you

You are an early career lawyer looking to deepen your experience in plaintiff personal injury, with a genuine interest in institutional abuse matters.

• 1–3 years’ post-admission experience in personal injury
• A current practising certificate
• Strong drafting and communication skills
• Good judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities
• A thoughtful and empathetic approach when working with clients
• A team mindset and the ability to build strong working relationships
