Go back to careersTurner Freeman Lawyers is seeking an experienced Risk & Compliance Manager to take ownership of the firm’s risk and compliance framework across our national practice.
This is a senior, firm-wide role with direct engagement with Partners, the Board, and external regulators — ideal for someone who enjoys autonomy, influence, and real impact.
About the Role
You will lead the development, implementation, and oversight of the firm’s risk management and compliance frameworks, ensuring we meet all legal, regulatory, and ethical obligations in an increasingly complex environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the firm’s risk and compliance framework, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with key obligations including (but not limited to) anti-money laundering, PEXA, data privacy laws, WHS, document retention/destruction, and Law Society regulations.
- Identify, assess, and manage operational, strategic, and emerging risks (including cybersecurity and data privacy).
- Coordinate internal and external audits, incident and breach reporting, conflict searches, and regulatory reporting (AUSTRAC, ASIC).
- Prepare risk and compliance reports for Capital Partners and the Board.
- Drive a strong risk-aware culture through communication, training, and education across the firm.
- Oversee the investigation and resolution of compliance issues and implementation of corrective actions.
About You
- Tertiary qualification in Law, Business, Accounting, or a related discipline.
- Experience in a law firm or legal services environment.
- Senior experience in risk, compliance, operations, or business management within a law firm.
- Strong knowledge of Australian regulatory and professional obligations.
- Confident engaging with regulators, auditors, and senior stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- High levels of professionalism, discretion, and integrity.
